Studio Pastoe, Karel Boonzaaijer, Pierre Mazairac

Studio Pastoe :

Looking at the history of Pastoe, there is a great consistency in model policy, product development and design. Consistent work is done to create a ‘Pastoe language’: geometric basic forms, minimalist detailing and the option to configure the object according to personal choice within the given framework. An enthusiastic team works in the Pastoe studio, bringing dedication and passion to creating Pastoe furniture. In addition to working with external designers, the studio translates signals from the market into furniture that is seamlessly aligned with Pastoe’s design vision. This was the origin of the Boxes, L-series, Frame, Noon and Pure cabinets.

Karel Boonzaaijer, Pierre Mazairac :

Karel Boonzaaijer (born in 1948) began his design career as a furniture maker. After completing evening studies in architectural design at the arts academy, he joined furniture manufacturer Pastoe. Together with the Pastoe design team, he developed, among other things, the L-160 cabinet system in 1975, which is still in use internationally.

In 1980, Pierre Mazairac and Karel Boonzaaijer started the Mazairac/Boonzaaijer & Partners design firm in Zeist. They designed Vision using the philosophy of having a cabinet as an architectural composition element.
