Maarten Van Severen

The son of an abstract painter, Maarten Van Severen chose to study architecture at Ghent art school; he completed three years before going to work for various agencies in interior design and furniture projects, then in 1986 he started to make furniture.

His work reflects his quest for perfection in form, detail and fabrication.Van Severen was also frequently commissioned as a decorator and furniture designer for private residence projects, teamed with Rem Koolhaas. They worked together on the Villa dall’Ava in 1990, then again in Bordeaux in 1996 (Maison à Floirac).

Fabian Schwaerzler

The Swiss designer Fabian Schwaerzler was trained as a metalworker before completing his studies in industrial design at the University of the Arts in Zurich. He subsequently worked from 2003 to 2005 as an assistant to Maarten Van Severen in the designer's studio in Ghent, Belgium. Schwaerzler has an affinity for work that spans the boundaries of artisanal craftsmanship and industrial production. 2006 he opened his own studio in Zurich, where he develops pieces for series production as well as unique custom-made designs.
